Savoury Meat Pie
Pastry
2 cups S.R. flour
6 tablespoons butter (6 x 20mls spoons)
80-100mls cold water
pinch salt
1 tablespoon butter (greasing)
1/2 cup flour extra
Filling
meat filling as for savoury mince
Preheat oven to 190C.
1. Grease pie dish.
2. Sift flour and salt into a bowl.
3. Add butter and rub with fingertips till it resembles bread crumbs.
4. Make a well in centre, add water and mix with a flat bladed knife to make a dough.
5. Knead lightly on a floured board. Cut into 2 sections – 1 slightly larger than the other.
6. Roll larger portion out carefully and line pie dish. Pierce with a fork.
7. Place filling into base and brush edges of pastry with egg and milk, egg or water.
8. Roll out smaller portion.
9. Carefully place over filling and press edges together gently.
10. With a sharp knife cut away from you to trim off excess pastry.
11. Brush top with glaze and decorate with pastry leaves made with excess pastry. Re glaze.
12. Do not squash edges with a fork, use fingers to flute carefully. Pierce top portion a few times.
13. Bake in oven until golden brown. Approx 30 minutes.

Savoury Mince
500g mince
1 onion
1 carrot
1/2 cup peas or 1/2 cup corn or 1/2 cup capsicum
1 stalk capsicum
1 stalk celery
2 tablespoons tomato sauce (2 x 20ml spoons)
1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (1 x 20ml spoon)
1/4 teaspoon mixed herbs
1 tablespoon fresh parsley
salt and pepper to taste
1 beef stock cube crumbled
1 cup water
2 tablespoons plain flour (2 x 20ml spoons)
1. Wash, peel (where necessary) vegetables and chop finely or grate as in case of carrot.
2. Place mince, vegetables and all other ingredients (except flour) in a deep saucepan and stir.
3. Place over medium heat and stir until browned.
4. Reduce heat and cook another 10-15 minutes.
5. Sprinkle flour over top, stir and cook for 3 minutes until thick.
