Braised Steak and Onions
1kg round steak
plain flour
2 Tbsp oil
60g butter
4 onions, quartered
1 Tbsp plain flour, extra
2 1/4 cups water
1 small beef stock cube, crumbled
1 sachet hearty beef cup-a-soup
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
Remove excess fat from steak, cut steak into large chunks; toss steak in flour, shake away excess. Heat oil in a large frying pan, add half the steak, brown well on both sides; transfer steak to large saucepan, repeat with remaining steak. Add butter to same pan, add onions, cook until soft, stir in extra flour; cook, stirring 2 minutes. Gradually add combined water, stock cube and soup mix, stir over heat until mixture boils and thickens. Pour mixture over steak in saucepan, cover and simmer for 1 hour or until steak is tender. Stir in parsley.
